Basketball Tuesday night

November 20, 2008 by keithwayland

Well not to much to write about, Kind of a uneventful game. I think it got to easy for them. Brian Williams came to play. In my opinion it is the best I have ever seen him play. I hope he can keep his game elevated to that level. If he does it will be very helpful when the level of competition increases. They only had two three pointers that was quite a drop off from the Chattanooga game. Looking forward to The next game.

B ! MAZE !! is A ! MAZE !! ing

November 17, 2008 by keithwayland

I am really impressed with Bobby Maze. I think he is the most valuable player we acquired this year. I’m not saying he is the best player we have or the most talented, I’m just saying he is the most valuable player. He plays the point very very well which is what we desperately needed. This team looked really good against Chattanooga, which I was glad to see because in my opinion the exhibition games left a little to be desired.

I saw nothing on the court that leads me to believe that this team will not be better then last year. The only problem I saw was half court offense, but none of Bruce Pearls teams have ever had a outstanding half court offense. The Point looked better,  the rebounding looked better, the defense with those long athletic bodies looked better, the athletisism just looked better. Sure we are gonna miss Lofton’s game and everything he brought to the game, and were gonna miss JuJuans heart and talent. But that is it, Maze already better then Ramar ever was, Hopson already gives you more then Crews. Then only question is can the Team Gel and play the whole year as a team and keep believing in Pearls system when the SEC season gets here and Minutes may be limited? If this team can play with half the HEART and PASSION and SELFLESSNESS that last years Team. Then we are in for one heck of season sports fans.

Its Basketball Time in Tennessee

November 15, 2008 by keithwayland

The first game of the regular season. An Estimated 17,000 butts in the seats. And everyone was treated to a highlight reel. The offense although a little sloppy at times can put some points up. 6 different players with a 3 pointer. Everyone on the team can drive the lane. Maze seems to be very unselfish. He is totaly fine with assists. He even has a goal of breaking the assist record for the year. With the wealth of talent around him, he may have a shot. I wanted to see Negadu more. A good point got brought up to me. Stephen Pearl is taking minutes from him! What? Other than that, a great improvement over the exibition games. The future is looking good for Pearl.

I dont understand the Butch Davis hype

November 13, 2008 by keithwayland

I keep hearing this on sports talk, we need to win the press conference, we need to hit a home run with a big name. And Butch Davis keeps coming up over an over again. What has Butch Davis actually done? Had some success at Miami, big deal he inherited a bunch of talent and plus his winning percentage was worse then both his predecessor and his successor. He went to the Cleveland Browns and didnt have much success. But they keep saying we need a big name and he is the biggest name out there. Well I will tell you a BIGGER name that is out there…are you ready? are you sure? the biggest name out there is “Phil Fulmer” yep thats right he has done way more on paper the Butch Davis ever has…Im not saying Fulmer is a better coach then Butch Davis or even that he is a better choice. But I am saying that Fulmer is a bigger name. So do you still think we need a big name? or do you think like I do and think we need to find the up and comer the coach that is hungry to make a name for himself a coach that has done alot with a school that has less talent. Somebody who can give Saban and Urban a run for there money..There has got to several coaches out there who are saying if I had better talent I could win. Because you have to have both talent and coaching. Unless you have unbelievable talent then you dont really have to coach (ala 1998)..

What does the futue hold?

November 12, 2008 by keithwayland

Next for the University is a new football coach. The talk of the town. Talk of the chat rooms. So who will be next? Whoever it is has some big shoes to fill. Like it or not there is still love for “The BIG Guy” He had a good run for several years. I know he had solid talent. I know he should have won more titles. But think about the number of titles Florida State should have won. Same with Miami. Both teams had a lot of talent for several years. If you want a talent rich team that always seems to lose one game, look no farther than  Carrol at USC. So, what is truely considered a turn around in the program? Is it a carrousel of coaches like the plague that went through Alabama? Does it take 2 years like Saban. Or, is it more like 5? I dont think 5 years will go over well. Not with the 3 to 4 million being dangled on the table. Big shoes!
